College Basketbal: William & Mary (-2.5) vs Towson (+2.5) Over – Under 120.5

The Colonel Athletic Association is a respected Mid Major Basketball Conference. They produced the first Cinderella team of this era when George Mason made a final four run in 2006. It was just a year ago when Virginia Commonwealth made a final four run of their own Both CAA teams earned their way to the record book. However, in today’s match up between the William & Mary Tribe and the Towson Tigers is a battle of the worst the conference has to offer.

These two teams are combined 3-29 this season. The Tribe have yet to win on the road and Towson has yet to win at home. Something got to give in this one.

 

Towson may be the worst team in College Basketball. They haven’t had a winning season since 1995 when they were in the North Atlantic Conference. They were just 4-26 last year. They are trying to turn the program around. They hired Pitt assistant Pat Skerry to take over as head coach this season. They are building a 60 million dollar arena for next season. They want to be a relevant basketball program in the CAA.

However, they are not there yet. The teams leading scorer Isiah Philmore transferred. The teams leading rebounder Braxton Dupree is also not with the school. If the program wasn’t bad enough, Skerry took over with the cabinets bare. He is rebuilding with youth and it’s going to take time.

Last year when these two played, William & Mary crushed them 83-68. And that’s with Dupree being the teams leading scorer with 17 points and and also had the most rebounds in the game too with 6. He’s not there to give that kind of production and there is no one to step up.

William & Mary was a real wild card in this conference. They were projected all over the place, some had them near the top, others near the bottom. Still, they were projected to improve from their 10-22 a year. But that hasn’t been the case. This team is a shooting team that is guard heavy. Their roster consist of 8 guards and just 4 forward, 3 of which have missed time due to injuries. This is why William & Mary has only won 3 games.

However, William & Mary still has decent talent, they just have to hit jump shooters to win. Luckily for them, they don’t have to hit many to win tonight. Towson only averages 50 ppg. That’s 344th in the country. They have only broken the 50 mark once in the last 7 games. In their last game only scored 38 points, which was more than their previous game in which they scored 27 points. Any team with any shooters should be able to score at least 50 and William & Mary does have some solid talent.

They blew out Towson last year, they do it again this year.  This Tribe team may not have the size but they have depth. Its a 9 man rotation. Towson only has 2 players that score 10 ppg. They have no offense and simply cannot score enough to win games. I would not be surprised if this team goes winless the rest of the season. They are that bad.
